Disney finally showed off the first footage from Star Wars: Episode IX at Star Wars Celebration. The film, titled “The Rise of Skywalker,” will hit theaters the end of 2019 and will be the final chapter of the Skywalker Saga that began more than 40 years ago with “A New Hope.”
“Episode IX” takes place about a year after the events of “The Last Jedi.” Not much is known about the film, but it sounds like Mark Hamill will be back in some form as Luke Skywalker. Also returning? Ian McDiarmid as Emperor Palpatine.
Billy Dee Williams will return as Lando Calrissian. Carrie Fisher, who passed away in 2016, will be included in ‘Episode IX’ after director J.J. Abrams explained that they formed her storyline from all of her archival footage. The trailer also features Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver.
